History

I founded Slabrication when I was 15 years old after I finished my first piece, a small steel bench with a spalted ash seat, which was sold at Topeo Gallery in New Hope PA. Since then, I have created various tables, shelving units, coasters, cutting boards, and wall art. I have made pieces for individual clients, craft fairs, art galleries, and charity auctions. A few local stores carry my work, which has allowed Slabrication to grow. I am currently studying Product Design at the University of Minnesota which will allow me to improve my skills in both fabrication and design.

Why furniture?

Furniture making is one of the physical mediums which can convey a story. I have had people come to me with fallen trees from their property, uprooted by the force of Hurricane Sandy. Other people have come to me asking to make tables out of the tree which stood in their backyard throughout their childhood. They wanted a physical object in their current life to remind them of their past, and it was my job to help preserve the story.

What is this?

These are called Lichtenberg Figures or fractal wood burning. They are created by sending large amount of electricity into the wood, resulting in a deep burn formed by the natural pattern of the electrical current. Each one is completely unique and can be purchased by simply sending me an email if you are interested.
